Fresh Skill Players Lead Miami to Victory Over Maryland

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. -- Stephen Morris couldn't see his first game-winning play as a quarterback at Miami.

He most definitely heard it.

Drilled as he uncoiled a 35-yard touchdown pass to Leonard Hankerson in the final minute, Morris quickly sped to the end zone to celebrate the clinching score of a 26-20 defeat of Maryland before a generously announced crowd of 55,434 at Sun Life Stadium.

Not bad for a first start.

"When he threw the ball, he got hit, so he said he couldn't see it," Hankerson said. "He was waiting on the crowd. When he heard the crowd go, he knew it was a touchdown. He was jumping up and down, and by the time he got down there he couldn't breathe."

Morris didn't speak with reporters afterward, but he authored arguably the play of the season for the Hurricanes (6-3, 4-2 ACC). If Miami wasn't in disarray after last week's loss at Virginia, it surely was on uneven ground.
