Matt Cardle literally gasped with shocked when he arrived home and saw the number of fans that had turned out to greet him in Essex this afternoon.

The X Factor favourite was joined by his mentor Dannii Minogue and after signing several autographs and posing for lots of pictures he headed inside The Five Bells pub to perform an extra special gig.

It was especially poignant for Cardle to play that particular venue as he used to busk in the pub on Sunday afternoons.
